About

Dear friends, colleagues, and artists,

I am writing to announce auditions for the 2013 Hawaii Performing Arts Festival. This year, we continue our tradition of educating young singers in one of the world’s most inspiring and nourishing places – the Big Island of Hawaii. We’re welcoming back several of our esteemed former instructors, as well as a few new faces, including Stephen Stubbs of the Boston Early Music Festival, Linnhe Robertson of London’s Guildhall School, and award-winning young stage director James Darrah.

Running synonymously with our robust string program, this year’s three-week vocal session (July 7-29, 2013) features three separate study tracks for our singers:

- Classes in secco recitative
- Classes in acting and movement
- Classes in performance practices and repertoire of Mozart and/or verismo opera
- Classes/coachings and concerts (tba) in the music of Mozart and Italian verismo composers

Baroque Opera Boot Camp

- Individual voice lessons and repertoire coaching
- Classes in Baroque repertoire, ornamentation & secco recitative
- Classes in historic dance and Baroque gesture
- Classes/coachings and concerts (tba) in the arias and songs of Bach and Purcell

Young Singer Training Program For Musical Theater and Classical singers ages 14-18
- Casting in staged and choreographed Musical Theatre Revue
